Fredericka King plays piano at the free noontime concert of the Cathedral Church of St. Paul. Miss King, a member of the piano faculty at the New England Conservatory of Music Preparatory School and associate professor of music history at Emerson College, has been praised by the New York Times for her "straightforward style and verve."

MagnificatBoston is a group of singers "from parishes in the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts and beyond" who are dedicated to the performance of Anglican choral Evensong. In monastic tradition, Evensong are the prayers said before retiring for the night.

The 25-member group performs once each month at a parish or chapel in the diocese, singing both English period and new American liturgical music.

Join Bishop Bud Cederholm at the Interfaith Pledge for Climate Action: A Day of Prayer and Advocacy on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 10-11 a.m., at the State House in Boston. Members of several faith communities will gather for prayer, to hear speeches and to visit their legislators and urge state action on global climate warming. Koshy Mathews, from St. Peter’s Church in Phoenixville, Penn., and previously of this diocese, in leading the retreat program of meditations, silence, worship and meals, with optional gatherings for centering prayer, shared reflections and spiritual direction.

Bethany House of Prayer presents Noticing, Witnessing, Wondering, a winter creativity workshop led by poet, artist and spiritual director Kimberly Cloutier Green. Participants, writing in a quiet, supportive and camaraderie-filled environment, will explore poem-making as an act of reverence for the natural world as an expression of God.

The gathering will be an occasion to share joys and challenges and discover assets and resources and what participants might be able to offer to one another, as well as to explore the benefits of collaborative partnering and to talk about new paradigms for ordained and lay leadership. The Cathedral Church of St. Paul presents a weekly program for Lent, The Arc of History Bends Toward Justice: The Civil Rights Struggle Then as Now, as Seen from Boston.

The series, hosted by Bishop Barbara C. Harris, will feature people who were there during the intense days of America's civil rights movement telling their stories and engaging in discussion with attendees.

Thursdays at 12:15 p.m.; bring lunch and learn from those who were there.
