Drawn from the contemplative prayer practices of the Desert Fathers and Mothers, and similar in some respects to Zen sitting practice, centering prayer is a form of meditation in which the mind and heart open to the wisdom and grace of God. Essentially receptive and personal, centering prayer begins in quiet reflection on brief passages drawn from Scripture and other sources and moves into long silence. It is in the deep stillness of shared silence that we attend to God’s presence and action within. Please bring a journal to each session.

Whether you’ve never written a poem or you have a long practice of writing, you will find in this monthly workshop enough quiet, support, and camaraderie to explore poem-making as an act of reverence for the natural world.

God speaks to us in and through the things of the world, and poem-making, like prayer, is the soul’s way of responding. Poets bring their attention and imagination to what they see, hear, and feel, serving as witnesses for God’s everyday glories and mysteries.
