In this weekend of immersion in poetry, Martin Smith will share and interpret a wide range of poems that have overflowed with spiritual meaning for him in decades of prayer and spiritual exploration. He will invite participants to embrace poems as powerful gifts for experiencing epiphany and discovery with God. Ann Griffiths, Charles Peguy, Rilke, David Whyte and many more will speak through their poetry. Participants are invited to bring poems that have been companions on their own spiritual path and share them with one another. The time together will include guided meditations, readings and sharing in small groups, and provide ample opportunity for silent reflection and rest.

The Rev. Martin L. Smith is well known throughout the Episcopal Church and beyond as a writer, retreat leader and preacher and travels widely sharing the fruits of four decades of spiritual exploration and reflection as a priest. Among his most popular books are A Season for the Spirit, The Word is Very Near You, Reconciliation, Love Set Free and Compass and Stars. He currently serves as Senior Associate Rector of St. Columba’s Church, Washington, D.C.
