Saturday Night in Marblehead will present fiddler Donna Hébert and groove guitarist Max Cohen on Saturday, Feb. 18 at the Church of St. Andrew in Marblehead. Max and Donna say they love using the music to tell a story but consider it a bonus if they can make you dance.

The concert begins at 8 p.m.; doors will open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets, available at the door, are $15.

Donna teaches fiddle and performance at Smith and Amherst colleges and has directed Great Groove Band children’s performances since 1998 at Old Songs Festival and since 2006 at Philadelphia Folk Festival—and Max has also been involved for the past 10 years.  A studio musician as well as a producer and engineer, Max has played guitar on many recordings and has produced eight recordings of his band and of himself as a solo guitarist. For the past dozen years, Donna has blended her fiddling with Max’s guitar and original songs. Their joint composition, “Raven’s Wing,” written in memory of Donna’s father, is now in Boston College’s Séamus Connolly Collection of Irish Music.  Donna and Max released an instrumental CD, Orange on Blue, in 2012. Donna and Max also perform, with Donna’s daughter Molly Hébert-Wilson, in a Celtic group, Mist Covered Mountains, which has recorded a CD titled This Distant Shore. In 2016, they began working with singer-songwriter Lui Collins and poet Jane Yolen to create Away with the Faeries, which will be released on CD this year.
