Using Teresa of Avila’s image of The Interior Castle, the retreat will explore the maze of dwelling places along the path toward union with the Beloved. Each dwelling place is in itself a rich world to discover and inhabit. Even in the darkest nights of the soul gifts may be discerned and given to one another and the world.
The retreat will look at how the lives of Teresa of Avila and John of the Cross influence their teachings, explore the classical Christian modes of awareness of the Divine, and how mystics create maps of consciousness for beginner and proficient alike. And finally, it will walk participants through the Christian liturgical year to discover how it enables “being” in any
soul state they may find themselves.
The leader, the Rev. Suzanne Guthrie, is the author of Praying the Hours and Grace's Window: Entering the Seasons of Prayer. She has led retreats throughout the United States since 1979. She and her husband Bill currently live with the sisters of The Community of the Holy Spirit on their organic farm in Brewster, NY, where she serves as resident priest.
