Join on Wednesday, July 18, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., for a day of prayer and reflection guided by the words of Evelyn Underhill (1875-1941). A scholar, poet, spiritual guide and retreat leader, Underhill was an important force in the renewal of the spiritual life in the Anglican church during the 1920’s and 30’s. Her lively, practical voice continues to speak vividly today, offering guidance about how to live the life of prayer deeply and authentically in all the callings of our daily lives. This Quiet Day program will combine brief meditations with prayer exercises and periods of silence.
The leader, Dr. Kathleen Henderson Staudt, works as a scholar, teacher, poet and spiritual director in the Washington, D.C., area teaching at Virginia Theological Seminary and Wesley Theological Seminary. An officer of the Evelyn Underhill Association (www.EvelynUnderhill.org), she facilitates the annual Evelyn Underhill day of Quiet Reflection held at the Washington National Cathedral in June. She shares with Underhill a passion for the creative life of the spirit and the life of the mind. Kathy is the author, most recently, of two books of poems: Annunciations: Poems out of Scripture and Waving Back: Poems of Mothering Life.
Program fee $75 (includes lunch)
