LYRA, an a cappella singing group from St. Petersburg, Russia, will be performing in concert at Trinity Church, 414 Sumner Street, Stoughton on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017 at 4:30 p.m.
LYRA, which means "inspiration" is a vocal ensemble whose singers are from a number of churches in St. Petersburg and which travels the U.S. to encourage music and its cultural heritage around the world.
The group’s harmonies give a sense of how the unique flavor of Orthodox music persists, in both the clean bright music of 17th-century composer Dmitri Bortniansky and the chromatics of turn-of-the-last-century composer Pavel Tchesnokov. After a number of traditional Orthodox music pieces, the singers’ post-intermission will feature their entry in traditional dress to sing Russian folk tunes with toe tapping fun for all ages.
Tickets are $15 (children $10). For more information, please call Trinity Church at 781-344-4592 or email office@trinitystoughton.com.
