St. Andrew’s Church in Marblehead will present William Paul Young, author of The Shack, for a lecture on Saturday, April 24, 7 p.m., at Marblehead Veteran’s Middle School (217 Pleasant Street) in Marblehead.
Young worked as a janitor until March 2008 near his home in Portland, Ore. He grew up as a third-culture kid, the son of missionary parents among the Dani, a ritualistic tribe of New Guinea. Set in the Oregon wilderness, Young’s novel “is a metaphor,” he says, “for the place we keep all our pain, sorrow, abuse and disappointments about life. The encounter with God at The Shack represents 11 years of my adult life spent in recovery and healing.”
General admission tickets are $25 and are available for purchase at St. Andrew’s Church, the Arnould Gallery and Framery, the Spirit of ’76 Bookstore in Marblehead, the Andover Bookstore in Andover and the Book Rack in Newburyport. Sponsorship tickets, which include a pre-event reception and book signing with the author at St. Andrew’s, and reserved parking and reserved seating at the event, are available by contacting shack [at] standrewsmhd [dot] org. Proceeds will benefit the ministries and community outreach programs of St. Andrew’s Church.
