The twelve steps of recovery have transformed the lives of millions of people worldwide, but you don’t have to have an “addiction” (or know someone who does) to appreciate their wisdom or their power. In this weekend retreat, open to all, we will explore the Christian origins of the twelve steps, and their parallels with Christian spiritual disciplines. Particular emphasis will be placed on the practice of the twelve steps as a way of life that leads to both peace and transformation. There will also be opportunities for discussion, and a healing service for those who would like to attend.

John Braught, a former member of the Society of St. John the Evangelist, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, has over sixteen years’ experience in recovery. As a practicing monk for five years, John has thought deeply about the relationship between the twelve steps and Christian spiritual disciplines. John has both personal and professional experience speaking to individuals and groups, of diverse backgrounds, on the spirituality of the twelve steps. He holds a B.A. in philosophy and speech communications from York College of Pennsylvania, and an M.A. in philosophy from the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium.
