Massachusetts Scholarship for African Students in America

The Massachusetts Scholarship for African Students in America (MSASA) is a joint program of the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts and the Episcopal Divinity School. The purpose of the MSASA grant is to provide funds for two consecutive years of post-graduate theological education in the master of arts degree program at the Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge for an ordained lay man or woman from Africa.

Grant recipients have come from Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. They have profited from studies not easily available in their own countries. Studying at the Episcopal Divinity School, and through it the Boston Theological Institute, they have been able to choose courses in their specific areas of interest and do that ecumenically. Men and women have taken interest in feminist studies and in God's mission throughout the world, and have contributed to the Anglican, Global and Ecumenical Studies.

It is true that "It takes the whole world to know the whole Christ." American Episcopal theological students and African Anglican MSAS scholars learn from one another.

The MSASA Committee provides hospitality for the student, which includes winter clothing and inviting him or her to to our homes and to MSASA Committee and Wider Mission meetings. We seek ways for the student to connect with a parish and the Diocese.
