Sending Serving Grants

Sending Serving Grants enhance the outreach ministries of Episcopal congregations in the diocese by providing financial support through seed money for new and existing programs that support the diocesan mission strategy.

For 2008, the Sending Serving Grants committee is focusing on outreach projects supporting women in need and invites congregations to submit initial proposals for such projects. The 2008 guidelines for submitting initial proposals are available in PDF format below. The committee will review the initial proposals and then will invite some of the applicants to develop a more detailed proposal and plan.

N.B. This years granting process will differ from previous years:

  • Grant requests can cover more than one year of operations.
  • The anticipated size of each successful grant is on the order of $40,000.
  • The grant review process will be iterative so that applicants and reviewers can see the application materials as they develop, allowing questions to arise earlier in the process
  • For now, there is not an externally imposed deadline for applications or decisions.

The Sending Serving Grants Committee is also focusing on deanery matching programs and reports that it is watching with great interest deanery activity in response to the program announced last fall. The committee will be gathering information from the 12 deaneries about their efforts to develop and support partnership outreach ministries. Upon review, the committee will consider extending this initiative and providing additional matching grant funds through the deaneries. Congregations that have planned to apply for Sending Serving Grants funds following the format of previous years should consider working through their deaneries for grants, or consider whether their proposals fit the women-in-need initiative.
