Night Prayer is a candlelit service of ancient plainsong, mystical silence, and meditation. Schola Nocturna, a small ensemble of men and women under the direction of Amelia LeClair, will sing the original compline service from the Episcopal tradition, adding anthems and chants, including the “Pater Noster” by Igor Stravinsky and the five-part “Nunc Dimittus” by William Byrd. Throughout the service, Newton saxophonist, Barry Anechiarico will improvise on the harmony and melodies in between sections. The evening promises to provide a thoroughly modern and yet ancient service of music and meditation.
Night Prayer is held at 8:30 p.m. on the first Sunday of the month and other Sunday evenings as announced. Those attending may join in singing parts of the service, use the space for contemplation, or simply listen to the music. Night Prayer is non-denominational and absolutely everyone is welcome.
