The Rt. Rev. Julia E. Whitworth, Bishop Diocesan
Bishop Julia E. Whitworth is the 17th bishop diocesan of the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts, the first woman elected to lead the Episcopal Church in Eastern Massachusetts, one of the largest dioceses in the country.

From 2016 until her election as bishop in May 2024, she served as the rector of Trinity Church in Indianapolis, where she co-founded Trinity Haven, the first dedicated residence to provide safe, affirming housing for LGBTQ+ youth experiencing housing instability in Indiana.
Long a leader in liturgical arts, she served as canon for liturgy and the arts at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine in New York City from 2013 to 2016.
She is a graduate of Dartmouth College, where she majored in drama and English, with minors in women's studies and education. She also holds a Master of Arts degree from New York University Tisch School of the Arts, in performance studies, and a Master of Divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary.
