St. John’s Church (48 Middle Street) in Gloucester will host a seaside workshop combining community singing with silence and meditation, in preparation for Pentecost. The workshop takes place Saturday, May 22, 1-5 p.m. Musicians Ana Hernandez and Uwe Steinmetz will lead the four-hour workshop.
The cost is $25 for the session. Mid-afternoon refreshments will be provided. Participants may bring drums or other instruments. Adults and older children are welcome. Uwe and Ana also will be music leaders at the Pentecost Sunday service, May 23 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Church, to which everyone is welcome to come.

Ana Hernandez (www.anahermusic.com/) is a singer, arranger and author of The Sacred Art of Chant: Preparing to Practice. Uwe Steinmetz (www.u-musik.us/) combines his training as a jazz saxophonist with his interest in theology through organizing Jazz/Theology Vespers at the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in Berlin and leading the international network of Christian jazz musicians, Crescendo Jazz. Founded in the chant and chorale tradition his interests include modern music of many styles.
