Province I Book Discussion: "The General's Son"

This online book discussion of The General’s Son: Journey of an Israeli in Palestine by Miko Peled is open to all in the New England dioceses of Province I.

The book is an account by Israeli peace activist Miko Peled of his transformation from a young man who'd grown up in the heart of Israel's elite and served proudly in its military into an advocate of nonviolent struggle and equal rights for all Palestinians and Israelis. His journey mirrored in many ways the transformation his father, a much-decorated Israeli general, had undergone three decades earlier. In a new epilogue the author takes readers to South Africa, East Asia, several European countries, the West Bank, Gaza and Israel itself.

The book discussion will be facilitated by the Rev. Max Sklar, a transitional deacon who will be ordained a priest on Feb. 10. Since the summer of last year, he had been living and working with a Palestinian Christian community in Ramallah through The Episcopal Church Office of Global Partnerships. He was residing in Ramallah on Oct. 7 and remained there until he was evacuated back to the U.S. later that month.
