This event is part of a series of offerings, hosted by the Diocese of Massachusetts and the Diocese of Western Massachusetts, in commemoration of the 350th anniversary of the beginnings of Metacomet’s Rebellion. Pokanoket Tribal Historian Don Strong Turtle Brown Jr. will explain how early skirmishes and clashes in culture from the Native peoples’ earliest contacts with Europeans eventually led to Metacomet’s Rebellion. Registration is now open for all sessions of the 2025 Clergy Professional Development Day, offered in two parts, with each part held four times: once in each region of the diocese and on Zoom.

Ministry Discernment Day is for anyone discerning God’s call in their life. This gathering will feature panel discussions with people serving in a variety of Christian vocations, and an introduction to resources for individual reflection, communal discernment in congregations and churchwide discernment programs. People who want to learn about the ordination process in the Diocese of Massachusetts are especially encouraged to attend, along with their sponsoring clergy, potential parish discernment committee members and family members.

Associated Parishes for Liturgy and Mission, 7 Faulkner Street, Ayer, MA

How can our prayer—at home, at church, and in nature— reknit our relationship with the earth and build our resilience and hope? We will meet at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and spend part of our day at a pocket forest in Ayer. Join us online at 4 pm for a Service of Holy Listening as we gather in a virtual circle and receive the gift of story from several Native voices, each bringing a unique perspective of Deer Island, Metacomet’s Rebellion/King Philip’s war and its meaning and relevance today. In addition, local worshipping communities are invited to respond to the call made by Bishops Fisher and Whitworth to set this day aside as A Day of Remembrance and Lamentation for the anguish caused by the expulsion, enslavement, and genocide of Native people across our Commonwealth. Liturgical resources will be made available by early September.
