Dec. 4, 2020
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
We are saddened to inform you of the death of the Rev. Marshall William Hunt in East Harwich, Mass., on Dec. 1, 2020. Marshall served as rector of St. Anne’s Church in Lowell from 1969 until 1992. He served the diocese as a member of the Standing Committee from 1977 until 1980, and again from 1990 until 1992; in the Stewardship Office from 1981 until 1987; and as deputy to the General Convention of the Episcopal Church from 1982 until 1994. He was also nominated for bishop suffragan of the diocese in 1988.
He served the wider church as member of the House of Deputies Committee on the State of the Church from 1985 to 1994, and as chair of the Standing Liturgical Commission from 1984 until 1986.
He is rumored to have retired in 1994, yet he was interim rector at Grace Chapel in Vineyard Haven from 1996 until 1998, interim rector at St. Anne’s-in-the-Fields Church in Lincoln from 1998 to 2001, interim rector at St. Christopher’s Church in Chatham from 2001 to 2003, and co-rector of St. David’s Church in South Yarmouth from 2008 until 2010. He continued to serve the diocese as one of the chaplains to the Retired Clergy, Spouses, and Survivors from 2007 until 2020, including several years as co-chair. The bishops honored him as chaplain emeritus at the 2019 Diocesan Convention.
A celebration of Marshall’s life will take place at a time yet to be determined.
May the soul of God’s faithful servant departed rest in peace and may light perpetual shine upon him.
