Register for summer camp; fun and faith discovery await

The 2012 schedule for summer camp at the diocese's Barbara C. Harris Camp and Conference Summer Camp 2012 brochure Center in Greenfield, N.H., has been announced, and registration is open for the six one-week sessions from June 24 to Aug. 4, along with specialized camp programs that include the popular Family Camp weekend with Bishop Bud Cederholm, June 21-24.

Registration and information is available in brochures sent to churches in the diocese and camp families, and is also online at www.bchcenter.org.

A letter of invitation from summer camp director Matt Lindeman follows.

Hello Friends,

When I was a child, I remember waiting anxiously for the arrival of the latest issue of National Geographic Magazine. I enjoyed it because it let me imagine myself into a new world, full of amazing images and articles of people and places far from my own day-to-day life in Nebraska.

For many of the families in the diocese who have participated in our programs at The Camp, the arrival of our program brochure is welcomed with similar enthusiasm. Dr. Robert Brooks, a clinical psychologist who studies resilience in kids, describes beautifully that we are hardwired to connect. Studies of youth who are resilient show that they are part of what Brooks calls authoritative communities, where youth are valued for their contributions, and part of a nurturing community of peers and mentors, with clear expectations and boundaries.  Connecting is a critical component of our mission, and it is the centerpiece of growing in relationship with Christ and one another.

As we look through the many pages of the brochure, with the variety of programs offered for our youth, teens and families, it is possible to imagine oneself into a new reality, meeting people from across the diocese, across the country and across the world. Our programs bring amazing people together in a close, camper-centered community that emphasizes relationship with one another, a discovering of self and others and, more importantly, a deepening relationship with God.

Our online registration is live, and can be found at
www.bchcenter.org. Copies of our camp brochure can be found at your local parish, or if you’d like, please e-mail us at at camp@bchcenter.org, and we’d be happy to send you one.

Looking forward to seeing you this summer!

In Christ,

Matt Lindeman
