Lowell Sun: All Saints', Chelmsford marks 150 years

View original: Lowell Sun

All Saints' Episcopal Church began with one determined woman whose legacy lives on today in the strong leadership roles laypeople--especially women--hold in the 150-year-old parish. Anna Eliza Hunt and her family moved from Charlestown to Chelmsford in the mid-1800s. In 1860, she decided to start a Sunday school that would form the basis of the church.

On Saturday, Nov. 4 at 5 p.m., the church will hold a service of choral evensong followed by a gala reception and history walk featuring pictures and artifacts such as the Bishop's Chair that came from Elbridge Gerry, the former Massachusetts governor and U.S. vice president for whom the term gerrymandering was coined.

The following day, All Saints' Sunday, Bishop Gayle Harris will preach at the worship service and meet with parish members and leadership. All of the church's choirs will perform along with a brass quartet.
