Mission Tithe Matching Grants

Mission Tithe Matching Grants are intended to foster and expand congregationally based global mission relationships by congregations within the Diocese of Massachusetts. Applicants should be intentional in their engagement in a mission partnership, and their mission work should have, or plan to have, a hands-on component and intentional mutuality. Congregations of the diocese may apply. Congregations are encouraged to partner with one another in working together on global mission. Mission Tithe Matching Grants are for work outside the geographic boundaries of the Diocese of Massachusetts. Both existing projects/programs and start-ups are encouraged to apply.

Mission Tithe Matching Grants

Mission Tithe Matching Grants are made possible through the Together Now Capital Campaign completed by the diocese, where a tithe of 10% of all funds raised was earmarked for mission.  There are several grants available, as described below.  All grants are designated

for “Global Mission,” defined as any church or community outside of the Diocese of Massachusetts, domestically or abroad.  All are matching grants, and require the applicant to raise an equivalent amount to the grant request.

The application process is straightforward, and designed to ensure the potential funding of every application.

1. Please download and review the guidelines before you begin.

2. All applications begin with the submission of a concept paper, outlining the Who, What, Where, Why, How of your global mission plans.  Please review the concept paper document, as well as the questions contained in Section 13 of the application you plan to submit.

3. Any material submitted by the 15th of each month will be reviewed at the end of that month by the Mission Tithe Matching Grants Committee, a group of priests and laity from across the diocese. In reviewing concepts and applications, they look for Elements of Healthy Mission

4. After review, someone from the Global Mission office will contact the writer of each concept personally, to discuss any questions, concerns, and feedback expressed during the review.  These should be addressed in the application.

5. Any application submitted by the 15th of each month will be reviewed at the end of that month.

6. Barring any issues, and assuming the church is in diocesan compliance with the items in Checklist A of the application, the writer of the application will receive a letter of congratulations in the first half of the following month.

7. A check will be requisitioned and mailed to the rector of the church before the end of the month.

8. A return receipt is enclosed with the check and should be signed and returned to the diocese.

9. A formal report is due upon completion of the grant activity, and prior to the submission of another application. (Relational reporting form, Pilgrimage reporting form).
